FAMILY-OWNED, GRACE BARKER OFFERS THE FULL SPECTRUM OF ELDERLY SERVICES

Established in 1966 in historic Warren, Rhode Island, Grace Barker Health is a family-owned healthcare provider of skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, assisted living and adult day health services. Administrators/Owners Mark and Mary Beth Lescault are Warren natives whose family has operated the facility since its founding in 1966 by Mary Beth’s mother, Linda Machado. Mrs. Machado was a registered nurse who named the establishment after her nursing benefactor and mentor, Grace Barker. “I could think of no better tribute,” said Linda, “than to name it after Grace Barker.”

Mary Beth and Mark’s local East Bay roots run deep, and Grace Barker remains family-owned at a time when corporate ownership is increasingly becoming the norm. Their son, Benjamin Lescault, joined as assistant administrator to carry it into the third generation.

Mark agrees that it’s the sense of family that makes Grace Barker unique, and it is tremendously beneficial for the elders in their care. “It is very comforting for residents to see the same familiar, smiling faces day after day,” he adds. “Linda would be pleased to see that we are still here on Barker Avenue treating residents with dignity and top-notch medical care, and keeping her dream alive for generations past and present.”

Grace Barker Health serves the needs of residents and families throughout the communities of Warren, Bristol, Barrington, Riverside, East Providence, Rumford, Portsmouth, and Tiverton as well as the nearby Massachusetts communities of Swansea, Seekonk, Somerset, and Rehoboth.

Grace Barker Health is the only facility in the area to provide a full continuum of care for the elderly – from skilled nursing and short-term rehab at The Cove, to adult day health and assisted living services at The Willows.

Residents enjoy a familiar environment of friends and surroundings, enabling a smooth transition from one service area to another when needed. “For example, when someone can no longer take care of their own activities of daily living at The Willows, they can stay with us by moving into The Cove. There, they can receive the skilled care they need, and be served by many of the same staff who provide delicious home-cooked meals, nursing and therapy services. We’re like an extension of their family,” notes Mary Beth. “It’s this level of familiarity, caring and continuity that truly sets us apart.”
